Landed: Finnish Spring

Finland…home of rain deer, birch, sauna and love. Finland wears spring like San Francisco wears fog. With aplomb. Cool and confident. It has nothing to prove but is open to for all to bask on its beauty.

On day two in Finland, Teija and I drove about 4 hours northeast of Helsinki to Lepp√§virta…to the house and town were she grew up. On a working farm. The little red house is a sauna…ūüėĀ

A few days later, Anja, Teija’s mother fell…she was sent first to small local hospital and then to a larger, trauma, teaching hospital¬† in Kuopio.

And outside of the rehab facility were Anja spent one full week plus her meal tray…BTW the entire bill (ambulance, emergency¬† department visit, 2 CT scans, EENT specialist, x-rays,¬† IV and pain medscape plus transport to rehab) is estimated¬† to cost – in total – 25 dollars. I’m looking forward to reviewing¬† that bill! In Finland,¬† they do not believe any person should go into debt for health care. They seem to take pride in paying taxes as they realize this goes toward schools,¬† services and health.

And just who is Teija? A few shots of Teija in action…
She removes boards, refinishes and¬† replaces…
